Accelerated
Reader Unity
West PTO has put together a program designed to ensure a successful and
positive reading experience for students and to improve their reading
skills. It measures comprehension and encourages students
to read. The
Accelerated Reader Program is best suited for grades 3-5 and our Rocket
Reader Program is designed
for K-2. The point of the Accelerated Reader and Rocket Reader
Programs is to encourage reading. Students
in Kindergarten through 2nd grade are allowed to participate in both
the Rocket Reader and the
Accelerated Reader Programs.
The way it works is students
choose a book on
their reading level and read it. (A
student’s reading level is determined by the STAR test program.) After they read the book, they take a
comprehension test on the computer. They
get immediate constructive feedback on how well they did on the test. A printout tells them the score they made,
how many points they earned on that test and all previous tests and
congratulates them if they passed the test. If
they do not pass the test, the students are encouraged
to keep
trying. This program also rewards
students based on
the total number of points they have earned by reading Accelerated
Reader books. Check out the
current Reward Program.
The Unity West library now has
over 100,000 tests
available with the new Accelerated Reader Program.
To
select an appropriate book for this program, you need
to make sure we
have the test available. Check out the
current
listing of available tests on the AR
Quiz list website. |
