West Weekly Stay Home Stay Healthy Edition - Week 8
May 13, 2020
It is hard to believe, but it is time to wrap up the 2019-2020 school year. We know this hasn’t been the year we’ve all expected, but we are thankful for your partnership as we navigated new territory and figured out remote learning. We are committed to continuing to plan for fall and will keep you updated as we learn new information.
Turning in Materials:
Remote Learning Packets: We have a small blue bin outside the front doors of the school. It is available 24/7 for you to turn in materials. All packets need to be turned in by May 20th.
Returning Library Books: You will be able to return library books and classroom books beginning Monday May 11th. There will be a large green receptacle in front of the school. PLEASE ONLY USE THIS BIN TO RETURN BOOKS. DO YOU PUT PACKETS OR ELECTRONICS IN THIS BIN.
Chromebook Return: If you checked out a chromebook during remote learning, please return it to the school office between 8:00-12:00 on May 18 or May 19.
Office Hours: There is typically someone in the office Monday-Friday between the hours of 8 am and noon. Many days there is someone there past noon. If you need to get a hold of someone at the school, you can call the school (217-485-3918) or email Mrs. Reichert (reichertl@unity.k12.il.us) or Mr. Fisher (fisherf@unity.k12.il.us).
Grab and Go Breakfast and Lunch will end Wednesday May 20th: All Unit Seven students are welcome to pick up a grab and go breakfast/lunch combo. All meal pick up is at Unity High school on the east side by the baseball diamond.
Times: 9:30-10:30 Monday 2 days worth of meals Wednesday 3 days worth of meals.
The USDA and the ISBE will have a summer meals program, and that information can be found here.
2020 Census: Please take part in the 2020 Census! A kindergartner counted in the 2020 census this Spring will be starting high school when the next census comes around in 2030. That is 10 years of school supplies, teachers, school lunches, and so much more! This is your opportunity to help ensure they have a bright future. For more information on why the census matters to schools, please click here.
Unity West is Going Green: Many people have noticed the construction happening on the southwest side of the school. There are solar panels being installed at Unity West and Unity East!
Pandemic EBT Application Available: The Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) launched the Pandemic EBT application for families on May 1 at https://abe.illinois.gov/abe/a.... P-EBT is a new special benefit that can help families buy food for their school age children who would normally receive National School Lunch Program (NSLP) free or reduced-priced meals when schools are in session. All families with school age children who attend schools approved for Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) are eligible for the benefits as they receive NSLP meals at no charge.
