West Weekly Stay Home Stay Healthy Edition - Week 9
May 20, 2020
We hope you will all join us tomorrow night, for the Wave Parade. The parade will start at 5:30 pm and staff will remain until 7 pm. Please do not enter the parking lot prior to 5:30. When you enter the parking lot, you will drive to the back of the school and loop around. After the loop around, you will then proceed to the bus lane. After you go through the bus lane, you will then exit the parking lot. There will be teachers all throughout the parade route. Everyone must stay in their cars during this time. We will not be accepting any returned materials during the parade.
Turning in Materials:
Remote Learning Packets: We have a small blue bin outside the front doors of the school. It is available 24/7 for you to turn in materials. All packets need to be turned in by today.
Returning Library Books: All library and school issues books should be turned in by the end of the day today, May 20th. There will be a large green receptacle in front of the school. PLEASE ONLY USE THIS BIN TO RETURN BOOKS. DO YOU PUT PACKETS OR ELECTRONICS IN THIS BIN.
Chromebook Return: If you have not turned in your chromebook, please bring it by the school office between 8:00 and Noon. All devices were due yesterday.
Office Hours: There is typically someone in the office Monday-Friday between the hours of 8 am and noon. Many days there is someone there past noon. If you need to get a hold of someone at the school, you can call the school (217-485-3918) or email Mrs. Reichert (reichertl@unity.k12.il.us) or Mr. Fisher (fisherf@unity.k12.il.us).
Summer Meals: The USDA and the ISBE will have a summer meals program, and that information can be found here.
2020 Census: Please take part in the 2020 Census! A kindergartner counted in the 2020 census this Spring will be starting high school when the next census comes around in 2030. That is 10 years of school supplies, teachers, school lunches, and so much more! This is your opportunity to help ensure they have a bright future. For more information on why the census matters to schools, please click here.
Pandemic EBT Application Available: The Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) launched the Pandemic EBT application for families on May 1 at https://abe.illinois.gov/abe/access/. P-EBT is a new special benefit that can help families buy food for their school age children who would normally receive National School Lunch Program (NSLP) free or reduced-priced meals when schools are in session. All families with school age children who attend schools approved for Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) are eligible for the benefits as they receive NSLP meals at no charge.
Yearbooks: As COVID-19 has changed the way we live from day to day, we made a promise to you to keep you informed about your Yearbook. At this time, due to COVID-19, we have had government-mandated shut-downs that have reduced our capacity for printing yearbooks. As we work to safely return to our production facilities, be assured that everyone who ordered a yearbook will receive one. However, in certain instances the delivery of your yearbook may be delayed.
PTO Update:
Thanks to everyone who attended our virtual meeting last week. Also a big THANK YOU to Anna McCormick for all her work this year as PTO President!
