Read-a-thon

Tomorrow our Read-a-thon kicks off and we really hope everyone can participate!

Setting up your kid's Read-a-thon page takes less than 5 minutes, and your support with reading, donations, or both can really help toward our goals.

If you have not already done so, please click on (or copy and paste) this link to activate your reader’s personal page:

https://www.read-a-thon.com/readers/r/MmreyM/1?utm=email

Setting up the account does NOT require any donation. It does allow you to help your reader track minutes outside school so they can reach a reading goal and earn some fun prizes.

Even if you don't choose to help fundraise, we ask that you help your reader track minutes to work toward a reading goal (we like reading - it's kind of our thing).

Rewards to earn:
  • Read 250 minutes = Earn a Snack Pass*

  • Read 500 minutes = Earn Ice Cream at Lunch

  • Read 750 minutes = Earn Popcorn & Movie Pass

  • Read 1,000 minutes = Earn a Pizza Party

  • Raise $100 in donations = Earn a Movie Pass

  • Raise $250 in donations = Earn a Pizza Party

How does this event benefit our students and school?

Our annual Read-a-thon is the main fundraiser for Unity East, and the donations we receive make many of the “extras” our students enjoy possible.

These funds support our open house and family night events, assemblies, guest speakers, Field Day supplies, and rewards like Kona Ice, popcorn, and pizza parties.

The Read-a-thon also helps cover costs of our mid-year field trips, including the Homer Lake Hatchet program, the 4th-grade courthouse visit, the U of I basketball trip, the choir’s holiday nursing home tour, and other off-campus learning opportunities.

In addition, the fundraiser pays for classroom subscriptions our students use every day, such as Starfall, Kahoot!, and GoNoodle. It has also helped teachers add books to their classroom libraries and supported STEM activities during indoor recess.

Unlike many schools, Unity East does not charge fees for field trips or student activities during the year. We serve families across a wide range of income levels, and we are committed to providing meaningful experiences without additional costs.

Your support makes all of this possible. Thank you!
